I loved this book, and I read it in a couple of days. Once you start reading it you dont want to put it down, you need to know what happens, who is behind all of this, why is it happeneing?

It is truely brilliant, I dont really know how I can gush about it in the way I want to without ruining it for anyone who hasnt read it! The characters are fab, the descriptions and emotion you feel from them is so very real.

The life William knew has gone. His world has been left devastated by the Fossil War. All major governments have been wiped out and the land is now under the control of the company Terrafall. Although Terrafall’s intentions seem honest, William wonders if the company will live up to its promises and stop the tremors, which have been plaguing the Earth since the end of the war. And can Terrafall really find out who is behind the recent wave of abductions?

When someone close to William disappears, he decides it’s time to take matters into his own hands. But in a land that is on the verge of tearing itself apart, is it a life worth fighting for? If your world was falling apart, how far would you go to save it?

I really cannot wait for the next book to come out in October. The book ends on such a cliffhanger, I didnt want it to end! Its not my usual genre of book at all ( I am a bit of a romance chick flick girly type book reader) however this has completely changed my view and I will definately give any book a go!

Ryan Mark is an amazing author and deserves serious recignition for this book!  If you wish to find out more or to keep up to date with what ryan is doing check out the links below!

Taste Cocktails – Subscription box review!

Subscription boxes, they seem to be everywhere right now, everyone wants one as a gift and what an amazing idea too! The gift that you keep getting every month. There are boxes for everything, sweets, make-up, crafts, kids, snacks, jogging, lady business and of course alcohol…

Well here’s my review of  a pretty nifty little subscription box from Taste Cocktails. Well I’m no big drinker and haven’t actually had any alcohol since midge was born. So I got my sister over, who does drink..

The box was sturdy and the bottles where packaged well, they wern’t rattling around the box but where secure in place. The bottles where big enough to create the cocktails in the booklet and still have a little taste (unless like my sister you keep adding more alcohol than originally called for) DSCF0952 DSCF0950 DSCF0949 DSCF0948 DSCF0947

None of these cocktails where ones we had heard of or had tried so it was a completely new experience to us! However there was a spiced cider one which was SO yummy! DSCF0957

A couple we wouldn’t have again.

Over all it was a good box, it enabled us to try new drinks and as a subscription you would get so much out of it, to try all types of different cocktails from around the world as well as trying the various different types of alcohol. They also give options of receiving proper cocktail making essentials too like shakers etc. which would be pretty cool! By the end you’d have all the kit you need as well as being a seasoned mixologist knowing what you like and don’t and what goes well together!

Prices are good for what you get. Cute kit, great experience. I only had a small amount of each one and felt rather light headed so take it easy if like me you arnt a big drinker 🙂

Brain Boost Kids box- REVIEW

This review has been a long time coming and I am so sorry its taken so long! My girls go tthe chance to review the amazing Brain Boost Box!

My girls LOVE this box, we’ve tried a couple of different subscription boxes before but they’ve never gotten the amount of play this one has! I didn’t take a picture of everything in the box as when postman arrives the girls stand at the top of the stairs (we live in a coach house so don’t have a downstairs) and ask if anything is for them, and as soon as Sassy saw the S on the label she knew it was her name! The fact it was actually addressed to Sassy and Midge made me smile SO much!

Anyways, the girls opened up the box in no time, they both love drawing and the first thing they noticed was the little pack of pencils.

Then the cotton reels and string, Midge still has a bit of trouble threading them but will sit for ages trying, Sassy is very good at it and likes to race as fast as she can to put the reels on the string. DSCF0882 DSCF0883 DSCF0884 DSCF0885 DSCF0886 DSCF0887 DSCF0888 DSCF0889

They then began to sort the reels out into colours and stack them up as high as they could.

DSCF0890 DSCF0891 DSCF0892

They also loved the little animals as both girls are animal mad.

DSCF0893 DSCF0894

This is where the pictures end as my camera ran out. we also haven’t done all of the activities yet! and I will be doing an updated review soon!

These 2 activities still keep both girls occupied for ages though, every day the first thing they go for is the box and tip it all over the floor to begin threading and sorting. There where musical instruments in the box too which both girls love! they where really fun and we enjoyed playing with them and making tunes. The items are all good quality and will last (even my heavy handed childrens rough play!)

There are cards in the box with instructions on using each of the items, as well as variations. The box is based on 5 core skills that all children should develop as they grow up, and its a really lovely kit. I really cannot express how much fun me and the girls have had with it. There are different boxes for the different age groups, the box we had was the preschool box for 2-4 year olds. Midge isnt 2 yet but loved it and Sassy will be for in September and both girls got a lot out of the box.

You can see them here Brain Boost Box

Clearance XL REVIEW & best before/use by descriptions

After this post about money saving I was contacted by Clearance XL to do a review of their service. This I was excited about because I love the idea of what they are doing, way too much food is wasted now a days and its really not needed! When we have people on the streets and families like mine struggling to feed themselves week after week why are people still throwing out stuff which is still edible?

When I first got the code I had a look on the website but didn’t buy as I wanted to keep a watch over how often new things are added and how long items tend to stay etc. So I left it about 10 days before I actually ordered. The website isnt the easiest to get around but it does what its supposed to. Its hard to tell what links on the side are part of the website or external links to other websites. However Once you get to ordering its brilliant, you can add items to the basket easily and see your totals.

So i ordered my items, paid my shipping fee (£4.50 for upto 30KG and then £3.50 for each box after) Im useless at weights/sizes etc so really underestimated how much food i had ordered!

My delivery arrived the day after I ordered it! On the website it says it could take between 1-5 days, this was one reason I had held off ordering before, because I couldn’t afford to pay out for food I may not get until the week after. Now seeing how fast it arrived I think I would definitely use them again. T+he box was massive and there was LOADS of food! we are sorted for snacks for a while now! The food is brilliant, unless you look for the best before dates then you’d never know they where out of date.  The fizzy drinks are still fizzy, the crisps are still crunchy and the chocolate is still yummy!!

I will definitely order again, the amount that my shopping totaled to is hardly anything compared to what we as a family usually spend on snack type foods. And it is a huge area that we really struggle to get the amount down in so this will help us big time! I’ve just had a look again and there are more items I would like to order!

I did have 2 popped bags of crisps and a smashed tin of pringles but for the amount that was included that’s fine by me!

Oh and for anyone like me who cant tell sizes/amounts very well, Sassy fitted in the box stood up and there was still a bit of space above her.*

BEST BEFORE

These dates refer to quality rather than food safety. Foods with a ‘best before’ date should be safe to eat after the ‘best before’ date, but they may no longer be at their best.

USE-BY

These dates refer to safety. Food can be eaten up to the end of this date but not after even if it looks and smells fine. Always follow the storage instructions on packs

DISPLAY UNTIL & SELL BY

You can ignore these dates as they are for shop staff not for shoppers.

DID YOU KNOW?

To extend the life of food beyond its date, freeze it before the date and defrost and use within 24 hours.

Providing eggs are cooked thoroughly, they can be eaten a day or two after their ‘best before’ date.

Taken from lovefoodhatewaste

*yes I put my daughter in the box!

Another page definitely worth a look is also on lovefoodhatewaste website about how to store food and how to waste less! fantastic ideas HERE

Dermocare plasters Review

I was able to review Dermocare Ocean Life and Safari Plasters. They are so cool!

DSCF0817 DSCF0819

My children are accident prone. They are both always covered in scratches and bruises. Sassy is very absent minded and like me cant seem to judge how close she is to objects, we bot regularly catch ourselves on door frames, door handles and the baby gate!  She also loves to spin around making herself dizzy and causing herself to walk into things and fall over! Sassy also has eczema which at the moment is flaring up a bit and cracking slightly.

DSCF0826

Midge is a daredevil, she is currently hanging head first off the sofa.. In our house we have radiators under the windows meaning she can climb onto the window sils and watch out of the window (until we ruin her fun and get her down! Due to living in a coach house, mentioned here being in the windows isn’t a good idea!) She doesn’t walk anywhere, she runs, full pelt with her face to the floor, as if she is charging at something. So these plasters where a godsend!

The plasters are waterproof which was great when midge decided to empty a whole bottle of juice over her lap (again) and the designs are amazing. And these plasters will appeal to kids of all ages! Especially the age where cartoon plasters are no longer cool but normal plasters are BORIIIIING!

Each pack contains 18 plasters in 3 different sizes featuring 8 different animals! One thing which I personally think is important is that they support the projects of WWF.  So not only are you getting awesome plasters, you’re also doing your bit to help wildlife and as an avid animal lover this is important to me! You can buy them from Ocado and Amazon for £2.99 per pack (price subject to change. Correct at time of review).

The plasters are just as good for you as for the animals they support:

  • Washproof & breathable
  • Protection from dirt & bacteria
  • Designed for all ages from birth
  • Hypoallergenic & latex free
  • Gentle on the skin
  • Easy to remove

They get a thumbs up from us!

I was provided these plasters in return for an honest review. All views are my own.

excuse my rubbish photography in this review! my camera is having a wobbly and I think I may need a new one!

buytshirtsonline T-shirt kit Review

I was lucky enough to review a Tshirt designing kit from buy tshirts online.

The kids had MEGA fun doing these!

I ironed the images on to the t shirts whilst the kids where out.

DSCF0791 DSCF0792

DSCF0795 DSCF0796

When they saw them (with just the images on) they where very impressed and when I told them they where aloud to draw on them they looked at me as if id grown another head and 3 legs..

DSCF0797 DSCF0798

All 4 sat down on a blanket (to minimise damage to my carpet!) and we got the pens out. Boy, Girl Sassy & Midge got straight to it. The 2 eldest drawing recognizable pictures and writing their names. Sassy was making really thick blobs which Fil showed her how to spread but Midge decided to lean on the pen causing it to squirt EVERYWHERE! I now have a ruined top & pair of jeans as well as it being on my carpet. I’ve also found it in my hair despite it being washed many times since the incident and this happening about 3 weeks ago (if not more.. )

DSCF0829 DSCF0830 DSCF0833 DSCF0834

These kits are fab, the T-shirts are the fantastic quality which we all know from fruit of the loom clothing. Boy (aged 8) and Girl (aged 6) really enjoyed the task and got the best results and for children of this age its brilliant to keep them occupied. Sassy (aged 3) had fun but couldn’t really get the hang of it and Midge (22 months) isn’t getting pocket money until shes paid for a new carpet/jeans/top.. well not really (we don’t do pocket money) but it wasn’t such a great task for her, although she enjoyed it there is not a chance I would let her near fabric paint until shes 21!

BurgerKing Delivers!

Occasionally we like a takeaway. We got a flyer through the door about BurgerKing’s trial delivery service! This got me very excited, when sassy was born I used to go into BurgerKing every couple of days, I could walk in the door and hand over my money without saying a word and my food would appear at my table in no time. *BAD MUMMY ALERT* Sassy was pretty much weaned on burger king chips.

I love BurgerKing over any other take away. So we tried the website.. Nope, wouldnt accept our address! Stupid website, so I rang the number on the flyer.. Told the lady about my problem and she said they could deliver to me.. Woopeee! So I ordered (which was a difficult feat as I struggled to understand the lady on the phone) the store rang to confirm and then I just had to wait, the driver got sent to a different address because our address didn’t show to the woman on the phone she just gave them a different address. Delivery driver rang to get our actual address and off I went to wait.. Then another call, delivery driver was lost. In the end he got here, an hour and a half after I ordered, when I opened it up they hadn’t put in the sauces which I asked for and the chips where gross! It was all cold.

so I emailed and complained, the whole point of a trial is to iron out the creases, if no one commented on less than perfect service then they would never improve it! And the reaction from BurgerKing was fantastic!

I got a phone call from the store and the man on the phone was massively apologetic! And offered to do the order again and get the delivery driver who now knows where we are to show the other drivers so it doesn’t happen to anyone else around here!

This time when the food arrived it was piping hot, the chips where the amazing proper BurgerKing chips which I remembered, the sauces where all there and the meal was absolutely amazing. Everyone I spoke to throughout this situation was so apologetic and wanted to do all they could to keep my custom. And I am hugely appreciative about how well they handled it.

BurgerKing, well done on handling my complaint so well, for responding brilliantly and showing that customer satisfaction is of utmost importance. It has firmly cemented you at the top of my takeaway choice list.

Has blogging made me more critical of companies? yes, Has blogging made me more likely to pull a company up on any issues I have? yes.. But without this feedback things wont improve. Has blogging changed your perspective on business’ and products?

kids weekend box review

I was sent a weekend box to review, now Sassy is only 3 and with Midge only being 21 months they are both at the lower end of the suggested age, that said however they loved it.

The box turned up on a day when both girls where out so I could have a look before they got it. I was happy with the activities which where available. We havnt yet tried the Hot chocolate and that will be added once ive bought the chocolate!

DSCF0708

The first thing we did was the Aztec parrot

This one was made by Sassy as Midge decided to eat hers..

DSCF0704DSCF0707

The girls enjoyed doing this, the eyes where a bit fiddly (remember my girls are on the young side) but that didn’t stop them. It kept them occupied for ages and since making it it has featured in many of their games.. Although midge isn’t content with eating her own but would also like to eat Sassys..

We also made the coasters but i’ve not got any pictures of them, I ended up with little bits of foam stuck all over the house! I cut the foam into little triangles and squares as the girls are too young for using scissors, I then left them to it sticking foam on their paper. This activity kept them quiet the longest as they had to concentrate on pulling the backing paper off before putting it on their paper.

Then we made the prints, neither of the girls could quite get the hang of it though so just ended up painting

DSCF0709 DSCF0711 DSCF0713

The weekend box idea came from a man (Andy, the founder) who was looking for a gift for his nieces & nephews.

‘I wanted to buy something educational (yet fun), something that would engage them and teach them about the world. I couldn’t find anything that fit so I quit my job and started Weekend Box.’

This came about in 2013 and its grown from there since then they’ve provided 45,000 hours of quality time through activity boxes.

They’ve won start up of the year award and have launched a campaign called PledgeOneHour along with the National Trust, designed to provide parents with free activities to do with their children, which was mentioned in Richard Bransons personal blog!

I would recommend it and if Sassy & Midges aunties or uncle wish to buy them something educational and lasting this year they are very welcome to purchase a subscription to these boxes! The girls loved it and it engaged them and created a point of learning because of the themes within the boxes, my girls don’t yet understand the themes but if i where to do it again with my partners children who are 6&8 it would open up discussion about Aztecs and why cocoa was used as currency.

If you would like to try one for free then use : FERN193
Boxes can be redeemed from www.weekendboxclub.com (new customers only please and just one free box is allowed per household)

Book Review: Clementine court by Chris Bakos

This book is amazing.

The characters feel like you are reading about people you know. I love the character Jen and this book completely made me reassess my life, from my fist job in warrens bakery ive wanted to run my own and this book has inspired me to get back to looking at bakery courses at my local college in a bid to make it a reality one day!

Georgie is a complex character whose emotions come over brilliantly.

I really dont know how to express this book. I couldnt put it down, I felt a part of the story. I was completely gutted when i finished it! there where twists in the book which i wasnt expecting which made it even better.

Clementine court is the kind of place we would all like to live and bring our children up in. Where neighbours become friends and family. But i really cannot show how wonderful this book is, i highly recommend it.

If you do wish to read it yourself you can purchase it from amazon

have a peep on Goodreads

and at Chris’ website

Beautifully written, cleverly done.

Baby’s Big Box of Little Books review

The girls and I where sent Baby’s Big Box of Little Books to review.

The box is very cute, and the illustrations are eye catching, these pictures caught both girls attention straight away. Being in a box with a magnetic closing got both excited to find out what was in the box! The magnetic closing allows both girls to open and close the box themselves, then they encountered a problem, the books are quite tightly packed so neither could get that first one out. After I gave them a hand getting them out they where away! Pointing to the pictures they knew and where familiar with and telling me what they where. Then I went through all 9 books with them saying each word and discussing the pictures; since we did it all together Sassy has sat going through each book with Midge, telling her what all of the words are and getting her to repeat them.

Both girls love to read them, and they love being able to put them back in the box themselves.

The books in the box are relevant to babies and toddlers every day life and are brilliant for getting children associating words and things. With these books we’ve also looked through them and then the girls had to find the ‘thing’ e.g in family they had to find ‘mummy’, ‘daddy’, sister; in games for catch they had to find a ball and throw it to each other. Making connections between words in a book and items they know.

The books are small enough for little hands and nice and chunky making them easy to hold. However the edges of the books are cardboard and with young children who enjoy chewing things these may not withstand the dribble. This of course would only be a problem if the child is sucking it for a long time.

Both girls enjoy these books and as they are simple they give scope for plenty of learning opportunities and play in differing situations.

summed up:
Very cute pictures and a brilliant idea, every parent with young children who are learning to read should have these books on their shelf, let their imagination run wild with a single word on the page.

you can purchase it from
