To new mummies & mummies to be (and daddies of course!)

Hi, well if your here your probably embarking on the most exciting, exhausting, exhilarating journey of your life, there will be good times, bad times and down right crappy times! Sometimes the baby will be awake for hours, crying & screaming, other times they will smile, giggle, babble & grab your finger.

What do you need? Well a babies basic needs are

to be fed & watered, whatever way you choose to feed your baby comes with equipment, bottles, steriliser, bottle brush, breast pump, nursing bras, nipple cream, breast pads.

To be comfy, clean dry nappies as needed, wipes to clean their bum, barrier cream helps prevent nappy rash, bamboo inserts if your cloth nappying, clean soft baby clothes, sleepsuits are best. Soft blankets which arnt scratchy or too heavy. Personally you cannot beat a knitted blanket. Enough layers that they arnt cold but not too many that they are too hot!

Sleep, somewhere appropriate & comfy to sleep, feet to foot position to stop baby wriggling down, not cluttered (no teddies which can fall onto baby) no pillows under 12 months, make sure they can’t roll off or out or get trapped. New mattress as it lowers the risk of SIDS.

Safety, appropriate pushchair for the age, a carrycot attachment is best at first, car seat, new not second hand, stair gates to barrier any hazards, cupboard locks to stop them drinking bleach or eating washing tablets.. (Yes the last ones you have a bit of time to worry about but not much!!)

Anything else is just nice to have so once you’ve got the basics then go but your nice to haves, pretty bedding, dummies, baby monitors, sleeping bags, baby bouncy chairs, swings, toys, mobiles. What’s important to you won’t be to everyone, your baby may not even like the extra bits you buy. Go second hand wherever you can (except for car seats and mattress) because babies use things for such a short amount of time! Little L is now in a cot bed, he used his Moses basket for 3 months but one month of that he was in his pushchair because he had such a bad cold/cough he needed to be upright.

Feed your baby how you feel is appropriate for your family, I breastfed sassy for 9 months, she was my only child we fell into it easily and she refused bottles, midge I breastfed for 6 weeks, then we moved house and suddenly I was alone with a 20 month old and a newborn all day so bottles where easier, little L I exclusively breastfed for about 5 days but he lost weight & I found it hard with a 2 year old and 4 year old, school runs and shopping and everything else! Don’t feel guilt whatever way you choose to feed! Baby being fed is the most important thing.

After the birth you may bleed, quite a lot. Make sure you’ve got thick pads, maternity ones or normal night time pads are fine. You may also get cramps as your stomach shrinks back down too. Like minor contractions.

If people are going to buy stuff or give you gifts either open a savings account or ask for baby shop gift cards so you can purchase what you need, who really needs 3 singing teddies or 2 of the same ball. Or 10000 outfits which are too small. We asked for any clothes to be 6 months + as we had bought most bits upto 6 months. 3 months after birth we are now going into 6-9 month clothes.

It will be hard, but it’s also so rewarding. The smiles, the giggles makes the sleep deprivation worth it. Babies whilst they are quite delicate, they arnt as delicate as some people seem to think. No shaking them but they don’t need to be totally wrapped in cotton wool, or maybe that’s just me..

Tommee tippee ultra bottle. (Review)

Say tommee tippee to most mums and they’ll smile at the thoughts of the fab baby products, the known quality the use ability of items all mums use when our most precious mini people arrive. I know I do anyway, I used tommee tippee bottles for midge when she was little & when I was buying for froggy I knew I wanted tommee tippee bottles again. Not only did I buy their newborn starter pack I also bought the blue colour my world bottles, the microwave steriliser, dummies, and not long after he was born we bought the perfect prep machine. So you could say I like tommee tippee products, so when I got the chance to review the new bottle I jumped at the chance.

Natural Latch – The extra wide neck teat on the Ultra bottle offers a more breast-like shape for baby to latch onto. The teat is made from a super-soft, high grade silicone which allows the teat to move in multiple directions like a breast replicating a natural feeding action. The breast-like nature of this bottle makes for easy switching between breast and bottle.

Secure Seal – A contour zone has been uniquely built into the Ultra teat, which forms a perfect match to baby’s open mouth. This zone allows baby to form a secure seal around the teat which helps reduce air ingestion and discomfort. It also helps prevent messy milk dribbles for a more comfortable feed

Perfect Flow – The innovative angled teat on the Ultra bottle provides a more comfortable, upright feeding position for baby and the milk flows down the bottle in an even way right to the end of the feed

We love this bottle, the shape really helps as my little froggy is quite a dribbly baby. With this teat he doest dribble as much and he doesnt mess around with the teat so much in his mouth. As the milk level gets lower im not trying to twist the bottle to get the dregs into the end of the teat as due to the shape of the bottle and the teat it goes right down into the tip! hooray! I really like the shape of the bottle too as it sits in my hand really easily ( is that even an issue for other mums? some bottles feel like they are a bit too round?)  and the shape of the teat is preferable for little froggy. I will definately be changing over all Ultra bottles when my colours ones need replacing (I cant bring myself to get rid of the lovely coloured bottles just yet) Hes never had much trouble with wind (its so nice after 2 girls who both had colic!) but he did sometimes get hiccups when drinking his bottle however when he uses the ultra he doesnt ever get hiccups, maybe its coincidence but probably not. I love it and if I knew what I know now I wouldnt have bothered with the ‘normal’ bottles and gone straight for ultra.

The new Ultra bottles from Tommee Tippee are available in 150ml and 260ml sizes in packs of 1,2 and 3 in Boots priced from £8.99 for a single bottle to £19.99 for a pack of 3.

I was sent the ultra bottle for the purpose of an honest review. All thoughts are my own and I havnt been influenced in any way

what a few days its been!

Well! From hooray for the weekend to being more tired now than I was then! As Mr is still very poorly hes hardly sleeping so ive been sitting up with him, midge hasn’t been sleeping properly either! She still has LOADS of bottles through out the day and night! Which is effecting her eating, occasionally she will eat a full meal but most of the time she just picks! Sassy slept through from 9 months, id love midge to sleep through just once! Last night sassy fell out of bed in the early hours so i had to sort her out too!

Sassy went to her dads for the weekend and didn’t come back until yesterday evening, feels like she was gone ages 🙁 she only usually goes for one night. Its been strange without her!

Oh and technology!! AHH! On Sunday rafflecopters weren’t working! so I wasn’t able to enter competitions until much later in the day! Precious comping time taken up! But yesterday was the worst, the forum I use to find my comps was wiped out by some serious spamming! Noone could read posts, there where foul mouthed rants by some sad angry person all over the place! It was awful. Just shows how much technology is relied on when you like to sit and enter competitions when you’ve the time.

Yesterday i won some funky duck tape! Looking forward to getting creative with it 🙂 have a lovely week everyone

hooray for the weekend

Well its finally the weekend, this week seems to have lasted forever! With the dog being poorly and worrying about him, to my OH also being poorly and barely sleeping, both girls have been unsettled at night too! last night the rats went to their new home. Its all been go!

Weve watched a tad too much peppa pig. Both girls are mad about it, Midge also loves Thomas the tank, both girls will dance and sing at the TV.

Sassy is going through the why phase, OH MY GOODNESS!!! everything is but why, she pays so much attention to whats said, its quite cute but by bed time its really not fun any more!
Yesterday i was telling sassy about why you shouldnt touch other peoples cars, she walks along with her arm out and brushed it along a car, so i was telling her and after a little while she was getting board of my lecture and she shouted ‘mummy i know, ive said i wont touch cars ever again so its ALRIGHT NOW!!’ well that was me told!

My children are both such madams, both have such big personalities and will go far in life, ive no fear of them fitting in at school, ive no fear of them having confidence issues as they grow up. Im so very proud of my children.

Sassy is terrified of motor bikes, ive no idea why except because of how loud they are but now shes waking up in the night crying about motorbikes coming into the house. Sassy loves her sleep and its not normal for her to be waking up. I dont know what to do, when a motor bike drives past us she stops and wont move untill its gone and covers her ears. Im realy lost as to what to do about it..

going to space!

Well not me exactly, but my name.. Its a bit strange and not quite as exciting as it sounds as lots of people will be doing it but still!

How cool would it be to actually go into space?! Id love to go one day (never even been on an airplane let alone in a rocket to space!) hopefully within my lifetime significant discoveries would be made and we will be able to go!  If you want your name or that of your little one to go on expeditions to mars then fill in the form here

Im waiting on the postie today! 😀 Well and the parcel delivery people, got some new clothes coming from new look! 🙂 Yay, fingers crossed it all fits, never am sure about ordering online as ive no idea what size clothes i actually am :-/ also waiting for a pair of bomber jackets to turn up from the Myleen Klass’ collection at mothercare, more about that when they finally arrive though!

have a lovely day all
